We hope you’ll join us for the following Upcoming Events for 2008:March: Potluck Dinner using MapleFriday, March 28 at 6:00 p.m.potluck at the Starksboro Baptist Church, discussion at the Starksboro Public Library Joining with the Jerusalem Schoolhouse Lecture Series and the Starksboro Public Library this event will be held at the Starksboro Baptist Church followed by a maple sugarmakers’ discussion at the Starksboro Public Library. April: Kitchen Tunks & Parlor SongsFriday, April l8 at 7:00 p.m.at the Starksboro Public Library. Mark Greenberg will share interviews and recordings of old-time grassroots Vermont musicians and a video documentary. If anyone has old-time musical instruments and/or stories to share, they would be most welcome and greatly appreciated. A Vermont Humanities Council program. June: Farming in South StarksboroWednesday, June 11 at 7:00 p.m.Carroll Stokes will entertain us with farming and businesses in South Starksboro. This will be one of the Jerusalem School Lecture Series events which the Starksboro Historical Society will co-sponsor. September: Lewis Creek Farm & the Old L. S. Gordon StoreSunday, September 7 at 1:00 p.m.We’ll share a picnic potluck at Lewis Creek Farm, tour the property including the site of the old ironworks and stroll up to the Old L. S. Gordon Store which is currently being renovated to become a music archive for Vermont music. November: Sprightly Steps VT’s Contra & Square Dancing TraditionsFriday, November 21 at 7:00 p.m.at the Starksboro Village Meeting House. Adam Boyce presents a Vermont Humanities Council program relating the history of musical styles and cultures and what an important spell the fiddle cast on our history from kitchen tunks to fancy balls. If anyone has photographs of performances, dances, where there were fiddlers, please contact Ruth Beecher so they can be displayed (434-3469) |
